No comic this week (work and moving house!)

Sorry folks! I haven’t been able to dedicate any time to MAiZ this week, so there won’t be a new page tomorrow.

I’ve been hampered down with a heavy freelance job at the moment, on top of planning my move to Sydney in a few weeks. I have to fly down there tomorrow to look at more prospective rental properties, talk to rental people, try to not appear desperate etc etc. It’s turning out to be quite the stressful affair!

Thus I apologise for the lack of a new page this week! Once I’m back next Monday, I’ll hopefully have time during the week to catch up again.

Keyword: hopefully.

Delay this week

Hi folks! Sadly there won’t be a new MAiZ page today; this past week has been busy with freelance work, I’ve been unable to dedicate the time to working on this new page. I’m planning to take time over the weekend to work on it, so should see new a new update either by Sunday or Monday at the latest!

I’m sick!

So sorry folks, but sadly this weeks comic is going to be postponed. I’ve come down with a nasty flu that’s thrown me about, and made working rather difficult, even on a MAiZ page.

I’ve been trying to get as much rest as possible, drinking plenty of fluids, but it looks like this blasted flu won’t be gone before tomorrow. I’m sorry for the inconvenience! Hopefully I’ll be back up and running properly next week and will have a new page ready for then (maybe 2 if I get the time!)

MAiZ Animation – progress!

Fuzzballs! I forgot to post this! It’s not much, but here is a fully animated scene for MAiZ episode 1!

…Well, that was quick!

My original intent was to have the entire opening sequence of MAiZ episode 1 completed before Crystal Mountain Pony Con back in June, but naturally things didn’t go according to plan: other jobs/priorities came up, I got busy, and on top of that, my office/house got partially flooded! (we’re insured, so it’s okay!)

Despite all that, I managed to finish at least ONE scene before the convention, and used it as a speaking point about the process of creating an animation from concept to rendering. It was fun showing examples of concept art, work in progress drawings, and the scene itself, as short as it is.

Fun fact: this scene took a week to make, including the background and animation!

So what does this mean for the MAiZ project? Well, nothing’s changed! I still plan to develop this into a fully animated sequence, but I have no idea how long that will take. This will likely be a long-term project (if it wasn’t already) that I will work on between other projects, until either I can devote 100% of my time to it, or I consider hiring help (or both).

Hopefully in the coming months, I can show you more updates as they happen!

For the time being, I hope you can enjoy this small piece of what I hope to be a full episode one day!

Exciting News for MAiZ!

Hey folks!

Apologies for the lack of updates. Progress on MAiZ Chapter 8 continues, even with all the same problems I have with every chapter (ie, “writing, auuuugh!), but it slowly develops into what I hope to be the most interesting chapter yet!

However, that’s not what I want to talk about.

For folks who may be unaware, I am an animator, and I love to animate stuff. I’ve done a few cartoons here and there. It’s always been my passion to tell stories through the art of animation.

I say this because for a long time I’ve always wanted to animate MAiZ; not just as a motion comic, but as a fully animated short or episode. Heck, I even did a short animation of Meli a long while ago!

But after many years and months of planning, I’m going to do it.

I’m going to animate the first episode of MAiZ.

Oh yes!

Well, at least a portion of it anyway!

Over the past few months, in between other projects, I’ve been storyboarding the opening sequence of MAiZ episode 1, which would include everything from the very first scene up to the opening title sequence. The plan is to develop and animate this entire sequence and give people a glimpse of what could be in store for MAiZ!

Think of it like a promo or teaser for the full episode.

The plan is to have the opening sequence finished by June 17 (my birthday!), just in time to be premiered live at Crystal Mountain Pony Con in Salt Lake City, Utah! It’s a goal I’ve set for myself, it gives me a hard deadline to focus on, and one I indeed to see completed.

I apologise in advance as it could mean delays in the main comic storyline, but I will do my best to juggle both (famous last words) I try to include as many updates on the progress of both the comic and this project as much as possible, as I love showing off cool stuff like this.

So yes! This is a thing that’s happening.
